Week 10: Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes!

Size Comparison : Dogwood Flower

Length : 5cm

Weight : 10g

Welcome to week 10, Mama! Lots of things are happening as you enter this week of pregnancy, which can be both challenging and exciting. A challenge may be that your morning sickness is at its worst as your body responds to all the internal changes. The good news is that most women find relief to their nausea within the next couple of weeks, so keep up with those healthy snacks throughout the day and connect with your healthcare provider if you are struggling. You may still find it difficult to get through the day, as much of your body’s energy is directed to growing your baby. You may still find yourself needing a midday nap. A healthy balance of rest and activity is essential to any pregnancy, and it’s a great idea to ask for help from those around you when needed. On the exciting end, more visible changes are happening to your body. You may notice that your clothes are getting tighter as the beginnings of your baby bump become more noticeable. This can be a very exciting time as the visible signs of pregnancy begin to show and as you have the opportunity to hear your baby’s heartbeat for the first time.

Your baby is ten weeks old and is also busy at work growing! The foundations for the major organs are already developed: the brain, lungs, spinal cord, liver, kidneys and heart. Additionally, more details are starting to appear. The fingers and toes become more defined as the webbing that connects them disappears. The nail beds begin to form, and more joints and bones appear.
