Week 3: Stuck on You
Welcome to your third week of pregnancy! Many women are unaware they are pregnant during these first few weeks, but congratulations if you have already received the news! Most likely, you have been waiting and anticipating this moment for a very long time! Hopefully, this pregnancy guide will be a helpful tool for you in the coming months, so check in weekly for a little encouragement and information about what to expect along the way. At week 3 of gestation, your baby attaches to the wall of your uterus. This process of attaching isn’t painful but may cause very mild spotting for some women. This week, your body is already starting to change and adapt to the pregnancy! You may experience some changes to the feeling in your breasts. They may feel tingly and will be more sensitive to stimulation. Your breasts may grow significantly in size in the first trimester; therefore, expect to go up a size or two in bras. All this growth and discomfort is happening to prepare your body for breastmilk production!
Your baby doesn’t look like a baby yet; that comes closer to 10 weeks, but these initial weeks are so important! Already, many of you will feel a strong bond with your baby that will only continue to grow throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period. Your baby is growing inside a sac of amniotic fluid that provides the perfect warm and protective environment needed to flourish. This week is a critical time in development. Your little one is busy ensuring all the groundwork for future growth and development is in place. It is truly amazing to think of how many changes have already happened. A good amount of the blood vessels, spinal cord, and buds for other organs are present. While your baby is barely visible to the eye, he or she is already so intricately complex!
